Cockle has a date with a plate... well, Nick
#1
Sunday morning I will - well, ok, hubby - take Cockle to see Nick.... then Monday we pick him up <img src='http://poultrychat.com/oldforumIcons/style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

The kind of good news is that Cockle had a little go at me this morning, and again a bit later, so now I know for certain it is the right thing to do. The naughty boy has got my leg twice, just kind of bumped into me but also given me a bit of a peck or something - fortunately nothing enough to hurt, but it is obvious he's doing it on purpose. Quite a while ago he bumped into Jess, my little girl, but I wasn't sure if it was just him being a baffoon and not looking where he was going, or him actually making a point.

So now I don't feel quite so bad. Not sure how soon the actual date with a plate will be - if he bumps me too many more times, it'll be monday!

I'm interested - if that's the right word - to see how a home-reared chicken tastes.

Well it''s perfectly clear you are doing the right thing and once the decision is made it feels easier somehow. Cockle has had a nice life and will have a nice ending and I bet he tastes amazing. I would stick him in the freezer for a bit though to distance yourself from him.
If they can be taught to hate, they can be taught to love.

Yes, deffo going to have to go in the freezer for a bit. Even though I know now that he is turning into a bit of a toe-rag, he's still my beautiful big boy.
