odd shaped eggs
#1
over the past month my white leghorn girl was seriously ill and didnt lay an egg for nearly 4 weeks,in the last week she has begun laying again ,but the eggs are flattened off on the pointy end and one was actually like a banana but white. All the eggs are very large and have good shells but are just wierd shapes. can anyone give me an answer or help with this problem. Some even have ripples in the shell.

many thanx.

sounds like something has gone astray with her tubing. I should keep an eye on her as although she may appear to be fine now, mishapen eggs can become stuck.

Having said that I have had rippled shells and occasional slightly mishapen eggs from time to time, it's just one of those things.

Hens that have had infectious bronchitis can then lay wrinkley eggs thereafter.

I also read that overweight hens lay rippled eggs as their internal fat presses on the egg as it forms and moves through the body..... <img src='http://poultrychat.com/oldforumIcons/style_emoticons/default/mellow.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
