And she keeps on laying....
#1
Hi all,

Thought Id just drop in this message about my hybrid cuckoo - she has just come into lay and gives me one every 2 days (average) ...only problem is, I need to go looking for them because she has an aversion to the nesting box! :S

Anyway, Sunday got back from church, about 12.30ish, and there in the hedge were 2 Polly-eggs (I recognised them as hers instantly) - and they were 100% not there on the Saturday evening when I locked them up for the night...

A joy indeed, and I thought I would get a day off egg hunting today.....nope! Another egg from her in the same place...3 eggs in 2 days (and the third was laid early in the day too) ....I believe extra corn for her!

Crazy hens!!

Any way of getting her to lay in the nesting box?

Put a couple dummy eggs in the nest box.

wish I had some eggs - my older girls have gone on strike and the younger are not quite POL

as GFM says pop some dummy eggs in the nest box - either ones you have or golf/ping pong balls.

Or you could be hard and shut her in the run until she lays?
If they can be taught to hate, they can be taught to love.

unfortunately they are free range chickenmum..and if I attached a run to the coop door, she would walk in the coop and exit the other door to freedom, lol...

Ill give the fake eggs a bash (not that they will crack, AHA!) and see how I get on...

My two pekins have started laying in weird places too.. although they sometimes use the nest box, today Polly's was in the coop - but in the grass run part, not the nesting box or bedding area, and Gretel's took me longer to find as it was hidden along the fence in between two clumps of daffodils. last week we had one on the concrete path and one in the lawn... silly chooks. I cleaned out their house and nests today so hopefully they will feel more like being in there at laying time!
